Emily and Kris MacCabe were married in February 2011. With Bean Boots keeping their toes warm, Em walked down the aisle to say “I do” to her best friend. It was only proper that they both sport those same boots for their session on the ice. I bit my fingernails as I stepped out on the frozen lake and told them that I wouldn’t do this for just anyone. (Seriously..). I am a firm believer that each session I shoot should tell the story of who my clients are – so if I had to go on the ice, I would do it. But seriously only for Emily! Kris convinced me that the ice was THICK and being that he’s the local game warden, I believed him. (It was!) A lot of times the male counterpart of the session is uncomfortable in front of the camera but Kris has been in front of cameras 24/7 for the new reality show North Wood’s Law on Animal Planet (premiere’s March 16 – 9pm! Watch!) so he was a natural. I’m hoping that Emily can convince her hubby that they need to come back and see me yearly. And now they know. ;)

I LOVED THIS SESSION. There’s nothing better than photographing a sweet new family. Erin is a photographer friend who makes my heart sing. I LOVE this lady. Her daughter, Aurora, was born in late November (the day after Thanksgiving!) in her own home. How amazing is that? I SO wish I had the pleasure of photographing her beautiful birth but milestone sessions will have to do. ;) Anyway – this is the type of session that I will be offering this year. LIFESTYLE sessions. :) The real you. Perfect.

Sarah + Mike’s New Years Eve Wedding

I’ve been excited to share this wedding since I woke up at 11:30am on January 1st. Yes, I said 11:30am… 30 minutes AFTER check out at the hotel. I scrambled my belongings into my suitcase quickly, threw my hair in a pony tail and ran down stairs. After apologizing a million times and explaining that I never sleep this late (hello.. I have a baby!) my embarrassment followed me to the car. “What the heck happened last night?!” Okay, no, I’m totally kidding about that last part. I only drank water at the reception. ;)
Sarah and Mike are, I believe, safely back in Italy after a nice warm honeymoon and I’m pretty sure they’re beyond excited to see these shots.

I don’t usually do Project 52′s. This year, the amazing Sarah of My Four Hens Photography is hosting a Project 52 (photo a week for the whole year) and I hopped on board. If Sarah’s hosting, I’m in! Ha! Week one’s word is “Resolution”. All who join have to post their image to the Flickr Pool. My image can be seen on flickr here! I’ve decided that I will also blog my image each week.

Resolutions:
#1| Be a super hero.
#2| Spend more time with family.
#3| Photograph my little man more!

It’s out! The new MarryME magazine has just hit magazine stands (check your local Hannaford!) and I rushed out to get my copy. Okay, I got 3 copies… but my mom & MIL are going to want one, too. Bahah! ;) Here she is!

Amanda Holloway’s Kitchen Sink Workshop

A few months ago I won a seat to Amanda Holloway’s Kitchen Sink Workshop. I told all my photographer friends who helped me win the seat that I would blog my experience; I promised. So here I am, it’s been over a month since I’ve returned from the amazing weekend.. and I have yet to tell you how wonderful it was.

I arrived on 11/11/11, a Friday. I had two amazing ladies (Kelly + Jessica) meet me at the airport and pick me up so that I wouldn’t have to drive through Houston. This blog post would be a lot more exciting if I were writing about Kelly’s driving. ;) Together we met with Amanda & the other ladies for dinner. I’m so glad we were able to talk to each other about non-photo stuff BEFORE our crazy weekend began. At the end of this blog I’ll post all of the ladies names & facebook pages so you can check them out.

Over BOTH days I learned so much information that I could barely contain it all. This was a GOOD thing. Amanda gives out a book with every detail inside – that’s what I read on the ride home. I can’t remember which days we learned what, honestly. Both days seemed to melt into each other. In the classroom Amanda taught me how to market, why to market, branding, design and PRICING. That one was huge for me. She created a calculator that showed us exactly how much we’re making an hour. (You would be shocked.) What an eye opener. Amanda showed us her Welcome Packet for her Seniors, and during the session she showed us her styling/make up/hair details. While shooting Amanda was very specific in teaching us to shoot with purpose. This was another huge one for me, and has helped me tremendously. When she spoke I wanted to smack myself upside the head and say “Duh!”
Day One.

We learned composition, location, lighting. Editing, client workflow and PREMIER ORDERING SESSIONS. Love these. I’m not kidding when I say… Amanda leaves NO detail untouched. If you have a question over something she’s there to answer it. Amanda isn’t afraid to say “Wow! Great Shot!” when you come up to her with an amazing shot SOOC. Amanda keeps in touch with ALL of her workshop attendees and has plans for an amazing alumni weekend. You probably notice that I’ve said amazing about 12 times in this post… but it was amazing.
Day Two.

Thank you to ALL of the beautiful ladies who came to model for our class. Thank you to Amanda for sharing her wealth of knowledge & not leaving anyone hanging after we leave. Thank you to the wonderful photographers who shared a total fun experience with me! <3

If you haven’t yet – get on it. ;) Basically, I just want to explain that not all workshops or mentorships are created equally. Why on earth would you just want to learn from ANYONE? Lyndsay+Seth | A very DIY maine wedding.

Love, compassion and respect. Those are the first three words that come to mind when I think of Lyndsay + Seth. Their engagement session took place at the exact same location as their wedding day – a place Seth says is his “favorite place in the world”. They met in High School (though she wasn’t his biggest fan) and once the stars finally aligned, his dreams came true. They have two beautiful children who complete their family and I am telling you – as soon as I met this couple I knew they were perfect together. Most of their wedding was DIY – the flowers, the ceremony, the reception. They served pies instead of having cake. They had lots of delicious and fresh picked apples. It was the fall wedding that some girls, including Lyndsay, dreamed of. I cannot thank this couple enough, for contacting me, booking me and having me present in one of the most important days of their lives.

The first look made me a little teary. Maybe it was the wind..
